Celebrating 115 Years of
Helping Calgarians in Need

As we say goodbye to 2025 I wanted to provide a report on the activities and successes of our 115th Anniversary Celebration year.

2025 was quite the milestone, considering that 115 years ago Lenora Woods and her friends borrowed a horse and wagon to travel the streets of 1910 Calgary collecting rags and rummage donations to turn into cash to help ‘distressed gentlewomen’. These women and their efforts to assist Calgarians in need were worth commemorating.

We first designed a campaign to appeal for donations of $115 towards the final layette bundling of the year which was held mid December. To date we have raised approx. $22.5K which more than covers the cost of a single bundling.  Thank you!

Earlier in the year we were featured in a comprehensive article published in the April 4th Calgary Herald outlining our significant history, current work in the community  and ongoing efforts to meet the needs of Calgarians.  Lenora Woods, our founder, was actually the wife of the Editor of the Calgary Herald back in 1910 so, much common ground.

In May this year we held a 115th Celebration with a ‘wine and cheese’ event for our members and friends at which we highlighted several of our programs and provided an opportunity for Samaritans to gather and celebrate the long rich history of our club.

This was a most successful 115th Campaign and we'd like to express a sincere ‘thank you’ to all of those who supported and participated in the celebration.
